Regis University Receives Distinguished Program Award

Recognized for initiative that brings Jesuit higher education to marginalized communities

Denver, Colo. (September 7, 2012) – The Association for Continuing Higher Education (ACHE) has honored Regis University’s College for Professional Studies (CPS) with the 2012 Distinguished Program Award. The award recognizes the University’s Jesuit Commons: Higher Education at the Margins (JC:HEM) program. The award will be presented at the ACHE national conference in Austin, Texas on Nov. 12-14.

JC:HEM was developed by the Society of Jesus to provide communities at the margins of society with access to Jesuit higher education services. JC:HEM partnered with the Jesuit Refugee Service to work on a four-year pilot program. Regis was the first university to initiate the credentialing process, and the program launched in September 2010. Today more than 300 refugees in Malawi, Kenya and Syria are completing coursework online and onsite toward a diploma in liberal studies and tracks in community service learning through a global network of Jesuit universities. CPS faculty members teach many of the courses in Kenya and Malawi. In March, Regis hosted the first international “think tank” about the future of JC: HEM, hosting Jesuit Catholic higher education leaders and staff from the Jesuit Refugee Service.

JC:HEM helps the University fulfill its Jesuit mission: to form men and women who use their knowledge to selflessly serve society. Regis also offers a selection of career-oriented programs in the convenient online format, including a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Criminology and a Master of Science in Information Assurance.
